The brand-new Hotel Indigo Leeds and Mediterranean-inspired connecting bar and restaurant, The Banksia, is officially open from today (Tuesday 15th July).
Located on Lower Briggate with easy access from both Leeds train station and the hustle and bustle of the city’s main shopping streets and Leeds Trinity, the 107-bedroom hotel tells the story of Leeds through its carefully designed interiors. Capturing the neighbourhood story, the hotel celebrates the people, places and experiences that makes Leeds the city that it is.
The contemporary bedrooms pay homage to Leeds’ rich industrial heritage, the rise and success of Leeds’ John Waddington who founded the popular board and card game company Waddingtons, and Leeds’ vibrant culture, nightlife and music.
The hotel also brings two meeting rooms which act as the perfect space for conferences and working lunches, and a fitness centre complete with the latest equipment in a modern environment. Featuring unique artwork and designs, the hotel is full of unexpected details that excite curiosity and encourage further discovery.
Opening alongside the hotel is The Banksia, which blends old-world Mediterranean flavours with local Yorkshire produce and a modern, vibrant dining experience. Offering a concept built around small plates and sharing, it’s ideal for groups or those wanting to sample a varied selection of dishes that deliver big flavours and vibrant colours.
Made up of four core sections, the All-Day Menu comprises a mix of seafood, meat, soil and grill options, and The Banksia has curated a special ‘Cosmopolitan Selection’ of cocktails, giving a nod to the site that came before it, and the rebirth and regeneration from which it takes its name. Perfect for the afterwork drinks crowd or those looking to just enjoy some weekend drinks and nibbles, The Banksia also has a dedicated bar menu.
Following the multi-million-pound investment, the new hotel and restaurant brings more than 60 jobs to the city. Simon Grace, General Manager at Hotel Indigo Leeds, said: “We’ve brought together an incredible team all under one roof to ensure that we deliver nothing short of the best hospitality to all our guests that walk through the door. We truly have created a special piece of the city, bringing together the best of the neighbourhood story in true Hotel Indigo style. I can’t wait to see what we can achieve together, and it is with immense pride that we officially open our doors, welcoming guests in and around the city to Hotel Indigo Leeds and The Banksia.”
Keval Thakerar, Director of Belfont Hotels, the hotel’s owners, added “After months of hard work from across the teams, it’s fantastic to see Hotel Indigo Leeds and The Banksia finally opening our doors. Leeds is such a thriving city, and to not only be a part of that, but also to have given nods to it throughout with unique touchpoints is something that we’re incredibly proud of. This is just the start, and we can wait to see just how far we can go.”
